The former banker and current owner of Ottawa cultural icon Zaphod Beeblebrox, a popular nightclub in the ByWard Market, Eugene is a long time Ottawa and Capital Ward resident.
"I have known Eugene for almost 20 years, and he has always been very socially active and constantly involved in local political matters, offering a thoughtful, no-nonsense approach to the diverse issues faced when living and working in Ottawa. He is a consensus builder who can reach across many different constituencies to be able to offer balanced, fair and intelligent perspectives on a whole host of social, business and government challenges," says Stephen Beckta, friend and local restaurateur. "If elected, I think he will bring a fresh and unique voice to Ottawa council, and represent Capital Ward very well in dealing with the challenges of this era."
Haslam has worked with Ottawa Mayors, and MPs from all political parties, the NCC, community and business associations, and has adopted many meaningful causes and charity projects in Ottawa.
A business owner and employer, as well as a resident and a Dad, Haslam is aware of the many challenges facing families and businesses in Capital Ward. "Ottawa is a wonderful city," said Haslam.
