Some guy claiming to be the "MSN music snob" put together a list of musicians "we'd" pay (not sure why he's entitled to speak for me but...since I 'm sharing his article, I guess I'll let it slide) to stop making music. Shall we see who has made this prestigious list?

Beyoncé, stop recording...

It's not that you're not talented. You're the most talentedest pop artist in the history of the music industry... and by history we're referring to AD, not anno domini but "after the decline." Let's face it: the music industry has been churning out more formula than Similac ever since file sharing killed its bottom line, while you, Beyoncé, remain an originator.

You're also a beacon of everything the industry used to be: you can actually sing, you can dance, you have a hand in writing and producing your own material and you can rock a wig like nobody's business (yes, that's an essential music industry element -- just ask Motown).

So, why in the Sam Hill are we asking you to stop recording? Mainly for humanitarian causes. Bey you need to stop dominating the charts so that other '90s-era R&B/pop stars can have a chance again. Remember Brandy, Amerie, Mya, Ashanti? Yeah, we barely do either...

Justin Bieber, picking on you would be like a 40-year-old joining a kid's karate class, destroying the tykes during sparring and then bragging about it to his girlfriend. It's not a good look, and we wish more of your detractors would realize that.

Nevertheless, we're putting on our adult caps and asking you to put down the mic for the safety of the children. WON'T SOMEBODY PLEASE THINK OF THE CHILDREN?! There have been a few reports of hysterical young girls trampling over each other just to see you shimmy and shake, and we just can't have that. So please... cut it out.

Christina Aguilera - Xtina, please stop wailing into the microphone...

Janet Jackson - Lysten didn't copy the text on this one as we're unaware Mike's sister was making music anymore.

50 Cent - Curtis Jackson, please pass the mic...

Frankly, you should have been one and done. We thought your debut "Get Rich or Die Tryin'" heralded the return of gangsta rap to the mainstream, and while a lot of concerned parents associations wouldn't agree with us, we were kinda excited.

Then you became the very thing that you despised in your main nemesis at the time, Ja Rule (whose career you admirably detonated with a single song "Wanksta" and a lot of public disrespecting): you became a syrupy pop artist masquerading as a thug. You may have the "Magic Stick," but for the rest of us the magic is long gone.

Nickelback, stop recording and stop manipulating us all...

What's infuriating is that you have the formula down to a science. You know what sells and you sell it... album after album after album after album. There's no great mystery as to why you're critically derided yet embraced by millions of fans. The people have spoken, and the people all want to be invited to one big drunken frat party that never ends. So please stop recording, if only to remind us that we can strive to be something more than obvious creatures. (LYSTEN NOTE - I have been saying this for years!!! In fact, I move we revoke their citizenship. Let them be Azerbijan's top grossing artists!)

Metallica, please stop recording and for that matter filming...

Lars, James, Kirk -- other members past and present -- you brought heavy metal to a wider audience. Congratulations. We still have to berate you for turning your backs on the people by being so anti-Napster.You guys were supposed to be rebels, but you revealed yourselves to be really corporate instead. If that wasn't enough, you then revealed yourselves to be sniveling, insecure and insanely rich (which makes the Napster affair all that more infuriating) rock musicians in the revealing documentary "Some Kind of Monster."

Your latest album "Death Magnetic" was a critical success, you had a successful two-year tour run and your multi-platinum sales proved that in this post-Napster world, fans will still buy an album and support their artists if the music is good (but we think Napster co-founder Shawn Fanning was saying that all along anyway).

Creed - Scott Stapp and co., please stop recording...

There was a time when one could type 'the worst band in the world' in a search engine, and your name would come up. We thought you'd take the hint then, and for a while you kinda did -- an official break up and a subsequent 8 year gap between recording albums.

Britney Spears, please stop recording...

To be sure, we don't want you to stop making music because you're a terrible artist. Rather, we want you to join us for a little experiment. On YouTube, videos from your first album, 1999's "...Baby One More Time" (six years before YouTube was even born) continually rack up millions of hits. Did you know that there are some contemporary artists whose current videos can't even approach those numbers?

Also, despite your very public meltdown and the constant ridicule you endure in the press, your current albums remain critically acclaimed; your Circus tour was the fifth highest grossing of 1999; and you still go multi-platinum. In the "here today, gone tomorrow" pace of the pop world, your career is just unheard of. If you stopped making music all together, will critics, fans and haters still be as rabidly interested in you as they are now? The answer to that question feeds into a larger one: Can someone continue to be famous while doing absolutely nothing at all? (LYSTEN NOTE - Really? See Paris Hilton!)

While not the nearly as humorous as the author may have intended, it does spark some interesting thought. We often clamor for an artists NEXT album, but rarely do we beg (other than myself re: Nickelcrud) artists to NOT record. What Canadian artists do we wish would stop drowning us in drivel? Billy Talent? Theory of a Deadman? That Buble guy? Celine? I'd love to hear your thoughts.
