After the release of his impressive debut full-length album, Lion On A Leash (Urbnet/Fontana North), in October of 2009, Kae Sun is gearing up to set out on a Canadian tour that begins this week in his hometown of Toronto February 4 at Glenn Gould Studio and brings Kae back home to finish up the tour for CMW in Toronto this March.

With his soulful vocals and expressively poetic lyrics, Toronto-based Kae Sun has a lot to bring to the table, including the diverse and unique background that so strongly shaped his musical style. Influenced by a vast array of performers, as well as elements of his birthplace Ghana, the up-and-coming musician has established a distinct style that is constantly developing and always sincere.

Boats play music songs in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada with lyrics about dismemberment (the good kind), excellent posture, and orthodontic surgery. A junky indie-pop band with high-end hopes but low-end equipment (total net worth of keyboard section: $40, all thrift store finds), Mat Klachefsky’s bizarre vocal chords mixed with his “infectiously catchy” pop songs and boundless energy have been freaking out audiences ever since they released their critically acclaimed first album "Intercontinental Champion" to local audiences in October 2007. Since then they have embarked on four Canadian tours, played a packed houses at SXSW, NXNE, Pop Montreal, WCMA's and Sled Island, and charted solidly all across Canada.

Boats just finished recording their 2nd full length album "Cannonballs, Cannonballs" which will be released in May.

A band called The Radio Dept. (Courtesy of The Muse Box)

The band was formed by Elin Almered and Johan Duncanson when they were in the school together in the late 90's. The name was taken from a gas station/radio repairer in Lund (Sweden) which had a large sign with the name »Radioavdelningen« (The Radio Department in Swedish) hanging outside their shop. Just like today Elin and Johan hung out with people who, if they didn't play music, were into photo, film, art and the likes. The Radio Deptartment was a suiting name as it became a department of its own among their friends' activities.

For a few years there was some random activity, members coming and going, and recordings being made,  after a while the Radio Dept. seized to exist. When Martin Larsson and Johan Duncanson started a band together in 1998 they decided to use the name. Between 99-01 the new Radio Dept. did a lot of noisy recordings, often on 4-tracks in friends' living rooms or at home.

"Sitting at home in January 2008, Kirk Ramsay found himself watching
The Devil and Daniel Johnston, a documentary about the famous outsider
artist. Like many people in that situation, he found himself inspired
to make the same kind of honest, unprocessed folk music.

So, to all the bands that have sent me music to listen to and post (we're getting there). I say thank you. To the city of Ottawa, I say watch out...there's some very good stuff in the pipeline for this summer.  You'll have a chance soon to hear some great music from the Centertown Cripplers, Wire and Light, Gianna Lauren, Flickershow, Elise Von Teichman and more (if you sent me music, and I didn't write your name here, I'm sorry..it's early and I'm doing this from memory). Soon I hope to add music by My Dad vs Yours and Provincial Parks.

If you are in a band and want to be a part of this, please contact me. chris@lysten.ca
